About the Race Course
The Swim Around Key West is 12.5 miles.

The course goes clockwise around the island.
See the map the the left - each number
represents a mile marker.

The water is warm, usually around 85 degrees.
Due to the warm temperatures hydration is very
important.   Equally important is sun screen.

The water is generally shallow.  You can see the
bottom for most of the race.  The water is also
usually clear and visibility is excellent.

Currents play a role in the race and can change
with little notice.  Generally the water is calm with a few waves but nothing dramatic.  Of course, weather can
cause a change in the water.    Regarding weather:  It is warm in Key West in June.  High temps are in the
upper 80's and lows are around 78.
