How difficult is it to complete the Swim around Key West?

Obviously any 12.5 mile swim is difficult.  There are some things in the swimmers favor however.  We usually try our best to time
the event so the tides will most benefit the swimmer.  This is not an exact science however.  Also for those who swim in fresh
water or pools - You will be more bouyant swimming in salt water.  To learn more about the swim we recommend you read the
journal entries of Bill Welzien.  Bill is swimming around Key West once a month, every month for an entire year.  His 41st swim will
be the 200
9 Swim around Key West.  The journal entries are full of information that will help you understand the swimming
conditions.
When was the Swim Around Key West Founded?

The Swim Around Key West was founded in 1977 by Anna Fugina-Pinella.  Anna won the first two Swims Around Key West.   Anna
remains very active with the swim every year.  In 2006 the Swim Around Key West honored Anna for 30th Anniversary of her swim.
